Be the Inspiration
Welcome to the Rotary Club of Gloucester, Massachusetts, a group of business men and women with a simple goal, to make our community a better place. Established in 1923, the Gloucester Rotary Club’s 60-plus members strive to embody our motto, “Service Above Self". This year’s Rotary International theme is, Be the Inspiration.
Commitment to community is what we hold in common. From the installation of a community playground at Stage Fort Park right here in Gloucester, to the construction of a school kitchen in Rwanda, our club raises the resources necessary to support our projects through fun, weekly fines, and annual events such as our Pancake Breakfast, Comedy Show, Trivia Nights, Calendar Project, Re-Gift Auction and Night at the Races. Last year, we awarded $85,000 for student scholarships, for support of local organizations, and for emergency causes that occur both in our own hometown and throughout the world.
Rotary is an international organization of business and professional persons with common goals and interests who provide humanitarian service, to encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and to help build goodwill and peace in the world. Because of Rotary International leadership and Rotarians around the world, polio has virtually been eradicated around the globe. There are only three countries where polio still exists. To support Rotary International efforts, the Gloucester Rotary Club founded and now hosts the District 7930's annual Polar Plunge to End Polio right here on Long Beach.
We do have fun! We hold a lively lunch meeting each Tuesday on the lower level of Cruiseport Gloucester, 6 Rowe Square. Our robust speaker program brings us information on a variety of topics and gives us an opportunity to learn more about the the community and the groups we support. It is also a chance to visit with and enjoy our fellow Rotarian friends. We have a Service Membership for those who have less time for lunch and more time to work on projects.
